Default B-MOW's TRX-4m Mini Blue Bronco

Happy Veterans Day to all those who have served and sacrificed! Thank You!

OK, new rig, new build thread! Just picked up my TRX-4m from my LHS that I had on pre-order. My hobby shop was finally allowed today to release these little guys! I have to say, seeing these up close and in person, these new rigs are cool! Well worth the $150 price tag!

I wasn't going to make a build thread for this, but since these are all new and there's not much info on them, I thought WTH might as well! Not sure how much I do to the Bronco, but I do plan on buying and installing a few of the Traxxas upgrades that were released at the same time as the rigs.

So after pulling it out of the box and giving the supplied 750mah battery a quick charge, I took her for a spin around the house. First thoughts, this little rig is amazing! It feels and drives so much like a 1/10 rig, but only smaller. The suspension is really smooth and the stock ESC has great low speed control with a fairly good top speed. I'll share more thoughts once I spend more time with it.

For now, here's the first pics of the Blue Bronco:

Look forward to this. Seems destined to be the rig that killed the SCX24.

It’s a fun truck; buttery smooth and quiet. The parts I wanted were on backorder until late this month. It will definitely need the lower gearing. I can’t wait to see what you do with yours.

Nice BMow! I got a blue one as well, but it’s a Defender. I ended up getting metal links and bearings for mine.

Damn B, you went nuts outta the gate lol. I pre-ordered a grey defender but be a bit on that from small LHS, so grabbed this one from the big LHS on the way home from work.

Looking forward to what you have in store for yours. This one is getting wheels and tires maybe gear changes after I play with it a bit. Defender will get a thread cause I got some plans for that one lol.

Damn, that is some bad luck! Sorry to hear! Yeah, I'd say they need to move!

I 100% agree! I have 2 SCX24's and this new TRX-4m is on a completely different level! The quality of the rig and how it performs is incredible! It feels and acts more like a 1/10th rig.

I'll more than likely will be getting another one or two of these Traxxas' and retiring the SCX24's.

Thanks Dirt! These little rigs are a blast to wheel! It is smooth and quiet! And surprisingly fast with the stock transmission that it comes with. I too will be getting the low gear trans when it is available to try out.

Nice! I'll probably get the Defender next. I do like the way they look and it has some scale accessories on the body. I'll be getting metal links and bearings for mine, but I'm gonna wait to see who in the aftermarket world makes these available.

Sweet! I need to look into putting a little brass up front on mine!

Nice tigris! I do like the black Bronco! Nice score!

Looking forward to your Defender thread! I have a feeling we will be seeing more TRX-4m threads popping up soon!

Brought the little Bronco in the garage to do some "tiny" updates!

I've been spending a lot of time on the Tube watching TRX-4m vids. I noticed that some have pointed out that Traxxas has omitted the grease in the axles and transmission. These both use plastic gears instead of metal.

I've never had a rig with plastic gears, so not sure if grease is needed, but I would think the grease would not hurt. So I cracked open both of the diffs and trans to add a small amount of grease to the gears. With how tiny the gears are, I figured it was the perfect time to try out my JimsBearings mine grease gun.

While I had the trans and axles out I went ahead and did the much needed driveshaft mod using heat shrink instead of the supplied o-ring that is used to keep the uni-pins in place. I cut small strips of heat shrink just wide enough to cover the pin areas. Made sure to mark the pins so that I could phase the driveshafts.

While I was a the LHS picking up the little Bronco, I bought the blue anodized aluminum heat sink for the motor. Probably not needed, but WTH, why not!!

Also picked up the blue anodized aluminum servo mount. Traxxas even added thread lock to the supplied screws. Easy install and should keep the servo from twisting under a load.

Looking good B. Man you have a good LHS near you, lucky!

Lube is one thing I should probably check, been putting silicone spray lube on all the bushings that can be reached externally.

That little grease gun is awesome, and I definitely need to do that driveshaft shrink tube mod.

My local Hobby Town wasn't always as good as it is now! New manager in charge and he has turned it around! I don't mind going there now!

I haven't lubed the bushings...yet. I'm hoping to get these bushings swapped out with JimsBearings sooner than later!

Yeah it's nice to have. You can direct the grease right where it is needed easily.

I think the driveshaft mod is a must. I can see a rock or any sharp object cutting that little o-ring pretty easily at the axles. The o-ring at the trans will probably be ok until it gets dry rot.

Part II of the upgrades that I did last night.

I picked up the only set of Canyon Trails that my LHS had in stock. I wanted just the tires by themselves, but they only had 1 set of 2 tires in stock. Not a problem since Traxxas decided NOT to glue the tires to the wheels. Good move Traxxas! I'm glad you decided to go that route. Can easily remove the tires and put them on different wheels.

So these little Canyon Trails are just like their big brothers. They are soft and grippy! I have always had great luck with my 1.9 Canyon Trails and currently have them on my GK-Ecto build. Love the tires and these little ones should be just as good. I may even go and cut and sipe these just like I did to my 1.9's.

I love the look of the stock BFG's, but the Canyon Trails are much more grippier.

Also picked up the trailer. I wasn't going to but it does look pretty cool. It comes with the hitch mount and it attaches to the back side of the stock bumper.

I may look into 3D printing some kind of overland tent or equipment to attach the the trailer bed. I'm sure in the near future there will be many designs available for download.

With the tow hitch installed, you will lose some clearance in the rear. I noticed after I installed it, it kept getting caught and drug while ascending.

sweet little truck.
been eyeing them ,might need.

a little disappointing with the plastic ring and pinion, guess time will show their durability.

was thinking, could you screw in two long set screws with a cross drilled hole and use body (hitch) pins to hold hitch receiver onto bumper.
easy on/off.

looking good.

Nice looking rig B-Mow, haven't tried this myself but I have heard that with a bearing kit it drives better and doesn't do that lurching like mine does when it is trying to climb and obstacles. Claims it drive like it does with the crawler gears but still has the original wheel speed.

Yeah, we'll see how long the plastic diff gears hold up.

I may look into that for the rear hitch. I'd like to be able to remove it when not needed. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks Gramps! I'll definitely be getting a bearing kit soon. Bearings are so much smoother and I have no desire to run mine in water. If for some reason it does submarine, it will be cleaned and dried after its run.

Thank you! The garage is more suited for 1/10 scale, but it works for the little 1/18 scale rigs too!

Made a stop at the LHS. I was shocked to see how much more stuff they got in for the TRX-4m's!

Had to get while the getting was there! The paint is for the wheels. I'm going to try to put some paint on them to make them look a little better!

Also shocked to find out they just got in a few more Land Rover's! The manager said that there has been a steady stream of parts coming in for these rigs! Surprising since all I hear on the social is that these RTR's and upgrade parts are hard to get and aren't expected until the first of the year.

Anyways, picked up the Land Rover for the grandson for Christmas. I think he's gonna like it! This one is in the red flavor.
