Default #13 FJ60 Phoenix

It is time to finally start this build, my very first Vanquish. I believe I have everything that I need that I've collected in this picture besides a receiver. Even though I've collected everything, and it's currently all on my desk, I've got some other rigs that need to be cleaned and maintained from a recent meet so I may lag on starting this one.

Contents:
- VS4-10 Portal Builder's Bundle. Portals will go to a future build.
- TeamC lexan FJ60 body w/light buckets. 90% leaning towards champagne color.
- VP Clear F10T axle housings
- VP 10.2 clear knuckles
- Incision/VP F/R axle shafts
- VP AR44 30/8 gears x2
- Axial 6 bolt diff lockers x2
- FastEddy bearings
- Gmade 1.9 SR05 flat black steelie beadlocks
- VP 4.19 Falken Wildpeaks
- Incision 56T spur gear
- Hobbywing Quicrun 1080 G2 ESC
- HH Crawlmaster Expert 540 16T
- Speedtek SPV-0109 servo (417oz @ 6v)
- Speedtek SPV-0223 micro servos x2 (67oz @ 6v)
- DSM micro - full size servo adapter x2
- Hardcore RC titanium links (106mm, 148mm, 98mm x2)

pretty cool ... I always like the champagne and brown 2 tone combo maybe even a white top ... should look mighty fine with the black steelies.

The brown two tone is noted. I may do the single color at first to enjoy, then do a brown on the outside later. That should give it a nice semi gloss look when compared to the champagne and also should bring out some contrast to some of the chrome trim I'm going to add as part of the detailing process.

Bring it! Been waiting to see some of them Yota axles in a build. I was so tempted to get set at the holiday sale but managed to distract myself long enough to lose the moment.

Transmission assembled, s'mores Pop Tarts snacked, mini one handed 3oz grease gun comes in handy for this stuff.

Also I wasn't able to swap to the 56t spur, as I think I need to swap to a different shaft and something else. I didn't let it slow me down so I just threw the 52t spur in and had a 13t pinion laying around so used that also. I hope it'll creep enough to my liking still.

Got the wheel & tire setup going. Decided to throw in these Flub RC FlubberStufferz printed foams. With these heavy wheels, the tire already has some conforming going on so I think with the weight of the chassis on it along with a 5000mah battery, these are gonna look really deflated but I'll wait until I'm further along.

The beautiful F10T axles are done, chassis is set up with the servos and shock towers etc. I did have some links ordered to mate with the axle swap, but I'd have to use some of the portal links as well. I didn't fully think it through when I ordered these, so since I'm also gonna use the portals on another build, I'll use those stock links along with it, and for this build I ordered the Incision SS links. I wanted titanium but the Incision SS kit just makes life simple and can have them within a few days.

I'll probably build the shocks tonight, and on Tuesday or Wednesday I'll have the links in and this chassis will be able to sit on it's own weight. Putting this kit together was also very pleasing, and love that there's a lot of 2.5mm hardware being utilized. As far as the body goes, I haven't even cut it out yet. But I can say that because it's an 80's vehicle, it's gonna have a lot of chrome trim detail going on and I'm dreading it lol.

Pop Tarts always a good option when rig building! Build is coming together nicely.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the Flub RC inserts when you get it out for testing. I'm wanting to try out a set of 3D inserts, but haven't decided which brand to go with. Them tires do look good mounted up!

Oh and them F10's sitting back there against the wall look HOT!!!

It sucks because I don't have a set of 3bros or other to compare. But like all other printed foams, just taking the tire and rolling the sidewall yourself and seeing it keep it's shape is cool. And even though these ones are for 1.9's, inside these tires they are just a tad on the shorter side.

I do have a set of YZZR inserts via Etsy purchased though and should be in my possession in a few weeks. They were promoted at $35 for a full set! I couldn't pass it up as there's 2 different stages so I bought both. Right now I think they're $43.

It's funny, when I first saw the 3D printed anti-foams appear last year, I thought to myself, that can never work! There's no way they will last without breaking into little pieces! Then I saw the price and said, no way, not now!

Well from what I see on the Tube and social, these "non-foams" actually do work and work pretty good. I think now I'm ready to throw some money at them, but not sure which to go with. I do like the fact the tire sidewall keeps it shape under a side load.

Yeahhh these inserts aren't gonna work for this build haha.

So since my Rock Pirate LC70 build is on the lighter side around 6lbs, I'll swap these inserts over to it and use those stock Pro-Line foams in this. Maybe even the stock VP foams in rear.

Just a slight setback, you'll forget about it once it's rolling over rock. Looking forward to seeing it painted.

That air down looks scale AF! Should work great at the beach!!

So I'm guessing that those inserts are for the super light rig!

Finally cut the body out. With the Incision F10 links, the wheelbase is about 317mm, and the wheelbase on the body is ~9mm shorter. While I would normally trim the front arches for steering clearance, I'd rather not do it to this body as I want to retain the factory look still. With that said, I've put in an order to InTheWorks for rear custom links that are 10mm shorter than current. May 20th is an Amain trail meet out in Paradise CA so I'd really like to have this done for it.

Also with these wheels and 5mm hexes, depending on how I mount the body, the offset on the wheels is high enough to where the tires might be able to tuck in under articulation! It'd be really cool with a set of 1.55s and 3.5-3.8 sized tires with a stock height setting but I really want to utilize these tires with this build. Who knows, I might do a tad bit of trimming to the arches but keep them to shape (like how my other builds are), just to make them a bit bigger but that's it.
